Failure Happens in Isolation - How To Workout at Home

I want to give you the guidance, accountability, and motivation that you need to have a successful fitness journey. With most of us spending more time at home during the pandemic, there’s a good chance that’s where your workouts are taking place these days. I know that you can do the push ups and squats on your own at home. I know you can get it done but I would be doing an injustice if I didn’t share the knowledge that I have learned over the years of my practice. Let me explain.

Building My Foundation

A little over ten years ago I got serious about my fitness. I started back up in the gym, but after a while I hit plateaus and got bored. I needed something different and gravitated to calisthenics workouts, which is where I got the most results and had the most fun. Eventually, I couldn’t get everything I needed out of going to the local gym so I had to start working out at home. As I got stronger and wanted to work on things like muscle ups, I wasn’t able to find the right pull up bar set up at the gym. It was also hard for me to find a reliable apparatus to train my dips and handstands on. In calisthenics we use parallel bars like you see in gymnastics centers, but you won’t find that at a commercial gym. I remember being frustrated that I couldn’t train the things I loved on a regular basis, so I decided to build my own pull up bar and parallel bar set up in my backyard. Ultimately, this resulted in me furthering my knowledge on how to train the rest of my body without weights and I was able to expand my practice.

This is the pull up bar and parallel bar set up that was built for my home workouts.

Finding What Worked For Me

Knowing the exercises was just half of the battle. I knew I couldn’t just go through the motions and do pull ups and dips all the time, there had to be a system. I wanted to know what to do, how to do it, and why. So I began studying for my personal training certification, reading books, and learning from tutorials. I was regularly working out at home and even acquired a few workout tools like a suspension trainer, medicine balls, and resistance bands. There were times I wasn’t quite sure I knew what I was doing and there were times I didn’t feel motivated. However, I learned how to maneuver through those situations and start to make the progress I was looking for. I was now certified. This is when I felt comfortable enough to start training some of my friends and family for free. They would come to my backyard to train and it was perfect for the summer. I learned a lot and they achieved real results. Shortly after, I met my friend and mentor who gave me the education and experience I needed to confidently open my own facility. After three years of training, learning, and teaching, I was ready to open the doors. Here I am seven years after that and I can still remember those feelings of uncertainty, and the lack of motivation (which still happens at times but I can now overcome). Since then I have had an abundance of learning opportunities from some of the top instructors and coaches from all over the world. This has made me a better student and teacher, and over time I have learned how to better apply my practices to each individual based on their lifestyle and goals.

My Why

That is why I do what I do. I have been serious about my training for 10 years now and I have enjoyed the benefits of a regular physical fitness routine. I want you to have those benefits too. I would be doing an injustice if I didn’t share that gift. I haven’t always been flexible, I haven’t always been able to climb a rope or get off the ground with ease. I have gone through this process so I can make it much easier for you. I can teach you how to get stronger, how to create consistency, and how to get your confidence back. I can even show you how to put together a home gym with everything you would ever need for under $200. You can think of me as your trail guide. Can you get up to the top of that mountain and back down? Probably. But with my experience and expertise I will make sure you get up and down that mountain safely, with no injuries, and before dark. You do not have to go through this process alone. Failure happens in isolation, let’s do this together.
